I know as enthusiasts, the knee-jerk reaction is to pick the Charger, but what if it was your own money making up the 20k difference, and you were DD-ing it every day and paying the gas tab? I'm interested to hear what you guys have to say about this.

Charger based entirely on the paint on the bug.

Even though the Charger is basically the same color scheme?

Charger. Because if it was about money there are many other cars that I'd rather buy than a Beetle with go fast stripes.

The Charger hands down. Mostly due to safety...

Even if you poke big holes in it, the paper bag that you'll have to wear on your head to drive the Beetle might move around in the breeze when you have the window open and obstruct your vision. VERY dangerous.

But... Let's talk dollars and cents for those that are OK with forsaking safety...

The GSR gets 23/31 mpg. The Charger SRT8 gets 14/23 mpg. According to fueleconomy.gov , the SRT8 only costs $1100/year more in fuel based on 45%/55% hwy/city split over 15,000 miles... That's only $3/day or $1.50 per direction on your commute/trips _on average_. If you drive the Beetle GSR, you'll need a Vente double shot latte to stay awake which costs more than $4 each trip. With the SRT8, you'll have adrenaline flowing once you light the 6.4L HEMI. Therefore, the Charger is _by far_ cheaper and more healthy than the Beetle GSR.

Case closed.

I love Dodge Bee cars, so I'd go Charger. This is really apples to oranges though. Maybe I'd split the difference with a Header Orange Dart.

I'd split the difference. Meaning get a Charger for 20k off what a new srt8 costs, either a slightly used R/T or a last gen SRT8. (both with low miles, 15k & 22k)
